7 epic days in Zanzibar

when planning a vacation ahead, you definitely get a better price and have time to research the place where you’re going, but you also count the days until the time finally comes. That’s if you’re not a millionaire and travel every month.

That’s what happened to me with my amazing holiday in Zanzibar. 11 people, and a month until everyone decided, but on 1st of October, we knew what we were going to do in February. 😁

Although the wait was long, it was totally worth it and I honestly don’t know how to start my story or how to find my words in writing to express everything I’ve discovered and experienced in these 7 epic days in Zanzibar.

Because many of you asked, I’ll start with the wonderful place where we were lodged and the people who took it upon themselves to make our holiday perfect. Miramont is a peaceful oasis where you really feel you’ve escaped the everyday life. Built and decorated simply, but surrounded by lush vegetation, the infinite ocean and a sky with stars made in “photoshop” (otherwise I can’t explain how there could be so many). On the first night, I woke up at 4 o’clock because I wanted to feel this vibe in silence as much as possible and watch the sun coloring the landscape as it was rising out of the water.

And because people are those who make the difference in every place, I was surrounded by the best. Lucia and Oana, whom I met then, made sure that we had everything we needed and fixed as fast as possible any problem occurred. And Ciprian is a rebel who doesn’t find meaning in material things and invests in experiences. He lives his life and leads this resort after this principle.

From dances with masai, the village disco, movie night, bonfire on the beach, to clubs with sunsets in the background, and rooftops in Stone Town. Every evening was planned for us, so we can get closer to the African spirit.

I will definitely not remember how the rooms looked or what clothes we wore. What I will never forget are all the beautiful moments I’ve experienced, or the pure relaxation when you drink your tea in the morning with your feet in the sand.

4 dreamy beaches

Besides the life in the resort, I was impressed by the beaches that looked like those you see on postcards. An infinite turquoise and the finest white sand I’ve ever seen. I found only one similar place from all my travels, namely the San Blas islands in Panama.

Every beach gave me a different feeling and that’s why I can’t decide which one is number one, but I’ll let you decide when you visit them.

  • Paje is for me the most effervescent beach. Interesting places to eat and many water sports, kite surfing in particular.
  • Nungwi is located in the northern part of the island. It is a very lively beach and also a destination for backpackers.
  • Mnemba is the first beach I’ve seen on the island. Wild, without too many people at certain hours, but with a fascinating view. It’s worth getting lost a few hours here, but you must have an umbrella, water, and fruit with you. The rest is relaxation and daydreaming.
  • Michamvi beach. On this beach, we admired the most beautiful sunset and we partied in the coolest club. I don’t know who the DJs were, but the place, the vibe and the people made an unforgettable night. Not to mention that the fun continued in the minibus on our way home.

Tips & tricks

  • Many of you asked me during the holiday and after I came back if I had a vaccine. In Zanzibar, there is no vaccine required if you arrive there directly, without going on the continent. If you cross the continent or come from another African country, it is mandatory. The rest is a matter of one’s preference, but I decided not get a vaccine.
  • Have a mosquito spray on you. I didn’t use it, but you never know.
  • I also received this advice and I will pass it on to you. If you can, take with you notebooks, crayons, and sweets for the children in the area. We all chipped in and went to a local school with a suitcase full of stationery because they really need it. I don’t recommend to distribute sweets unorganized because it creates total chaos. It is best to offer them in an organized setting.
  • Have a small kit of meds just to be sure and if you don’t use it, donate it to someone who knows how to use it.
  • Find out the hours when the tide is low because it varies depending on the area. In case you want to swim in the ocean, without walking a few km to the water 😃

I hope my pictures and my stories make you put this corner of the world on your wish list because it’s worth it. I was really impressed and I will definitely return to explore the rest of the island. And yes, a bunch of good friends will make the experience even more exciting.

If you get there, I’m waiting for a tag from you and if you need more information, I’ll provide it with pleasure.

 7 epic days in Zanzibar

Miramont Retreat Zanzibar

  • Am primit si eu aceasta recomandare si v-o dau si voua.
Asta in cazul in care vreti sa faceti baie in ocean si sa nu mergeti cativa km pana la apa 😃
